Yesterday was held the twelfth edition of the Cross Country Race Chirripó , starting and finishing in the community of San Gerardo de Rivas, in Canton Perez Zeledon, south of the capital city of Costa Rica.

The community of San Gerardo is a small town nestled in the mountains, with a growing supply of eco-tourism, hot springs and trout fishing. It is located 20 kilometers northeast of San Isidro de El General, about 1200 meters. Before this, there are the communities of Rivas, Guadalupe, Chimirol, Canaan and San Francisco, and Herradura de Rivas is higher.

competition is a journey of 34 kilometers through the mountains of the Cordillera de Talamanca. The output is 1200 meters above sea level and climbs up to 3400 meters, Crestones Base - 2200 meters of vertical ascent -. During the climb of 17 kilometers passed places like the thermometer, the Slope Water, Llano Bonito, Monte without Fe and the Slope of the repentant. To complete the race you have to climb to the Base Crestones and fall back to San Gerardo. The riders have up to 4 hours to climb or are disqualified and the next edition of the times will be even more competitive. At the top it takes 3 to 4 hours up and down.
